Netflix shows don't always have real endings, so this is a relief

Netflix's adaptation of Cixin Liu's novel The Three-Body Problem and its sequel will return for a second season, and potentially more, the streaming service announced Wednesday. It appears the renewal is for however many seasons the series needs to end. The announcement came with a quote from the series' showrunners that it is focused on the end of the series, although they did not specify how many seasons that might involve.

"We're excited to tell this story to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu's magnificent trilogy, we've been hoping to take the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!" said a statement Netflix posted on X, credited to showrunners David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Woo.

According to Variety, Netflix also said that at a later date it will announce how many episodes and seasons are left in 3 Body Problem, but for now, it seems we can trust that the creative team behind the show will stop telling the story. While this isn't a huge surprise, considering how popular the first season was, Netflix has a reputation for canceling shows right when they start. So the assurance that we're getting a proper ending for 3 Body Problems should be reassuring to fans who have been burned by Netflix cancellations in the past.
