Frontier Communications has confirmed that more than 750,000 individuals were affected by a cyber attack on its systems in April, according to a government filing.

Lawyers representing the major US telecommunications company told the Office of the Maine Attorney General that data belonging to 751,895 people was stolen. The data types that are affected, according to the notification, are limited to names and social security numbers. No financial data is believed to have been compromised.

"We take this incident and the information security of our care seriously. Upon discovery of the incident, Frontier engaged leading cybersecurity experts to support the investigation and contain the incident," the company said in a letter to affected individuals.

"We also took steps to further strengthen our network security and prevent further access by third parties. We have notified law enforcement and applicable regulatory authorities."
