Xiaomi-backed Huami recently launched two of its smartwatches – Amazfit Bip (Rs. 5,499) and Amazfit Stratos (Rs. 15,999). The Stratos is the more expensive one, and it offers more features, higher water resistance, a more attractive circular design, and more. We recently received the Amazfit Stratos smartwatch, and these are my first impressions of what I like to call "the more expensive affordable smartwatch."

Amazfit Stratos – the review

In terms of design and build, the Amazfit Stratos looks pretty much what you'd expect a circular smartwatch to look like. Amazfit has gone to great lengths to try and make it look like a regular watch by giving it not one but three buttons on the side that give it the feel of a regular chronograph style watch.

That said, the Stratos is a very bulky watch, which is saying something because I'm used to the bulk of the Moto 360 being a bulky watch in its own right, but the Stratos is even thicker than that.

The watch is made of plastic, which makes it feel a lot less like a Rs. 16,000 smartwatch than my Moto 360 and it sucks. Amazfit's website says the glossy frame around the screen is made of polished ceramic. While that may be true, it doesn't really add much to the watch in terms of style and polish. It definitely adds some class to the watch that would otherwise look really bland, but it's not something I'd brag about on a smartwatch as the Amazfit Stratos looks very underwhelming for a watch priced like this one. The Moto 360 that I am using was priced at Rs. 13,999 and it offers a much better build quality and design than the Stratos.
