"Alexa, thaw three pounds of chicken!"

You'll soon be able to use Alexa to control your smart oven or microwave

Yes, if you own a smart microwave, you may soon be able to use such commands and have the virtual assistant help you with kitchen chores and cooking. The company has announced that it is adding support for controlling smart microwaves and ovens to Alexa.

The addition of cooking skills to its list of Smart Skills API will initially play itself on microwaves. These skills work much like you'd expect from an Alexa-enabled microwave. You will be able to add time, trigger presets, change power modes, so on and so forth.

Speaking of the supported devices, Whirlpool is the first to launch an integrated device very soon. And while there's no confirmation, we wouldn't be surprised to see some of them at CES next week. GE Appliances, LG, Samsung and Kenmore also plan to add Alexa support to their ovens as well as other appliances.
