AMD has responded to community concerns about underwhelming gaming performance for its Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors by attributing disappointing results recorded by independent testers to keys in their system and software settings.

Can anything fix the Ryzen 9000?

One factor in the complex interplay of technical variables is that AMD conducted tests of its Zen 5-based hardware, which has broader branch prediction capabilities, in admin mode.

"Our automated testing methodology was run in 'Admin' mode which produced results that reflect optimization of prediction codes for branches not present in the version of Windows reviewer used to test the Ryzen 9000 series," the chip giant explained in a Wednesday post.

AMD also said it is testing with Windows Virtualization-based Security (VBS) enabled. It is the default behavior and recommended by Microsoft but may affect performance. Testers would likely disable VBS to remove an unnecessary CPU burden.
