Just a few months ago, Apple and Google decided to create an industry standard to curb the abuse of location-based tracking. And right after that, at Google I/O 2023, this feature was made official as Unknown Tracker Alerts for Android. After almost 3 months, this feature is finally released live for Android users. Let's take a look at what this new feature has to offer.

In an official Google blog post, Google has listed three different ways the Unknown Tracker Alerts feature will keep Android users safe and up-to-date on potential threats to their privacy and security.

First of all, you will now be alerted on your Android smartphone when a "foreign" tracker is separated from its actual owner and if it travels with you. You will be able to expand that message and see the exact location where the tracker allegedly contacted you. A "Play Sound" option allows you to trigger a sound on the tracker that only you will be able to hear to locate the tracker. The actual owner of the tracker will be kept aloof from this entire process.

Second, if through the above-mentioned process you can find the tracker, Google will give you tips on how to physically disable the tracker. Wearing the tracker on the back of your smartphone can provide important information about it that can come in handy. Information such as the tracker's serial number, details of the owner, the last four digits of their phone number and so on can help you take legal action. You can learn more about how to completely prevent the tracker from sending details back to the original owner from here.
