With the next-generation iOS 18, Apple is already expected to revamp some of its most popular native apps such as Safari, Photos, Notes, Mail and Fitness. Now, the Cupertino tech giant is also likely to introduce a new password app in the upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15, according to a recent report from Mark Gurman.

Of course, the native app will offer an easier way to access stored login information on iPhone, iPad and Mac. With a dedicated password app on board, Apple is gearing up to challenge the most popular third-party password apps like 1Password and LastPass.

Apple already offers a passcode feature in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but it's buried deep in the Settings app. If you're new to the Apple ecosystem or haven't explored the Settings app that much, the Passwords option can be difficult to find. Over time, Apple has introduced new password features such as storing logins and passwords, one-time passcode support, password sharing, and more.

Like the existing Passwords feature in the Settings app, the new Passwords app will be powered by Apple's iCloud Keychain service, which syncs usernames and passwords between Apple devices. The app will support all features supported by the Passwords section of the Settings app, and will also be available on Vision Pro and Windows PCs. Additionally, the standalone password app will import passwords from other apps like 1Password and LastPass.
