Apple has been on a roll this week, announcing back-to-back upgrades for the iMac and iPad series. Well, today is no exception as the Cupertino giant has finally announced its most awaited upgrade to Apple AirPods, the second generation AirPods. And yes, it comes with an optional wireless charging case, as expected.

Apple announces second-generation AirPods, with wireless charging case and a new H1 chip.

The second-generation AirPods were first teased during the launch of the iPhone XS/XR last year and come more than two years after the launch of the original AirPods. The new AirPods are powered by a new Apple-designed H1 chip (replacing the existing W1 chipset), improved battery life, hands-free "Hey Siri" functionality, and a Qi wireless charging case.

In the official press release, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller says: "The world's best wireless headphones just got even better with the new AirPods." With that, let's dig further into the new features of the second-generation AirPods, in a bit of detail.

The new H1 chip in the second-generation AirPods comes with Apple's custom audio architecture and is the reason for all the performance gains. Designed specifically for headphones, it offers faster connection, up to 50% more talk time (compared to first generation AirPods) and the added benefit of Siri being just a voice command away.
