After nearly a decade of work, two lawsuits, the departure of a top executive and undisclosed levels of spending, Apple has reportedly decided to shelve its not-so-secret self-driving car venture, Project Titan.

How Tesla Killed Apple's $10 Billion Car Project…

Apple hasn't publicly confirmed the decision — we've asked — but unnamed Cupertino insiders leaked news of the decision to Bloomberg, which reported it on Tuesday. News of the decision apparently came as a surprise to the nearly 2,000 people who worked at iCar, some of whom are likely to be made redundant.

Project Titan was launched in 2015, and while most people knew it was a self-driving vehicle project, not much else was revealed about the initiative. A price tag of $100,000 per vehicle was mentioned at times, as was the ambition to achieve Level 5 autonomy – a car that requires no human input to drive. By 2022, other reports suggested that Apple had decided that some human controls were needed. As for how nearly a decade of work on the project went for Apple, it's unclear.
