According to Gurman's latest Power On Newsletter, Apple plans to improve the capabilities of your AirPods and turn them into a "hearing health companion." This move aims to regain Apple's position in the wearable industry, especially in the audio sector.

Gurman believes that Apple is working on significant innovations related to hearing health and body temperature that they plan to release in the next few years. This development could indicate Apple's goal to establish its AirPods as a viable substitute for hearing aids, possibly even surpassing them in functionality. To do that, the Cupertino tech giant is developing a hearing test feature that allows you to screen yourself for hearing problems. The feature involves playing different tones and sounds to determine your hearing capacity and help AirPods determine how well you can hear.

Additionally, it is possible that upcoming AirPods will include sensors that can measure body temperature through the ear canal. Using this technology, Apple can collect accurate information about your body temperature, which is considered more efficient than the conventional approach of relying on your Apple Watch (Series 8 and Ultra) to collect data from your wrist.
