The commission — part of the EU's executive arm — also launched a separate investigation into Apple's new contract terms and developer fees it introduced as part of its efforts to comply with the DMA.

In its preliminary findings, the commission said that Apple's business rules for app developers do not meet the DMA's requirements to allow developers to steer users toward alternatives outside the Apple environment, which may be cheaper or otherwise more beneficial.

The Registry has asked Apple for comment.
