Although 2 foot waves may sound tiny, they’re perfectly surfable. In fact, what’s called a 2 footer may technically be 3 or 4 feet due to the way surfers measure wave height.

Mechanical waves require the particles of the medium to vibrate in order for energy to be transferred. Sound waves, as with all mechanical waves, CANNOT be transferred or transmitted through empty space (vacuum).

The faster wave travels a greater distance in the same amount of time. Sometimes a wave encounters the end of a medium and the presence of a different medium.

From October to April, the waters become gentler and the waves get back to normal. Occasionally, bigger swells are created on both the coasts by small storm systems. This is the small swell season (also the peak tourist season) and it is the best time for beginners learning to surf.

You can tell a spot has a steep profile if it gets deep very quickly. In this case the waves will break closer to the shore and they’ll be packing some power. Spots that gradually get deeper will often have gentler waves, ideal for learning to surf. Tides go in and out with high and low being roughly 6 hours apart.

The best time of day to surf is generally in the early morning (around sunrise) and in the late evening (around sunset) when there is swell in the water.

Learning to surf requires between two hours and one month of practice. If you’re struggling for more than two months to ride a wave, then there’s something wrong with you. The first thing you’ll need to master is lying and balancing on a surfboard – that could take you between half-an-hour and two or three hours.
