Daily horoscopes serve as a quick gateway into the world of astrology, offering bite-size updates on the stars, planets and cosmic energies. Horoscope detractors argue there is no scientific evidence to support the claim the stars have a direct influence on people.

Are daily horoscopes and astrology scientific? According to the University of Berkeley, California (UC Berkeley), astrology uses a defined set of rules to predict how the horoscopes will affect our lives. But there is no scientific basis to these predictions beyond the deeply held beliefs they are real.

In common usage, horoscope often refers to an astrologer’s interpretation, usually based on a system of solar Sun sign astrology; based strictly on the position of the Sun at the time of birth, or on the calendar significance of an event, as in Chinese astrology.
