Surfer’s Point, Marina Park, Harbor Cove beach, Arroyo Verde Park, and Harmon Canyon, all welcome dogs — though please check their websites for specifics (on leash/off leash; where dogs are/aren’t allowed).

The sandy beach at Ventura Pier is Ventura’s main central beach and is nearest downtown.

The 2.5-mile shoreline walk along the Ventura coastline from Promenade Park to Marina Park includes the Ventura Pier, rock breakwaters, San Buenaventura State Beach, and ends at the 15-acre Marina Park. There are several free parking areas along the beach walk if you are not interested in the 5-mile round-trip walk.

It is illegal to swim any place else within Ventura Harbor. The areas north and south of the harbor are posted as being hazardous for swimming. Lifeguard services are not provided. Rip currents and the jetties make it very dangerous to swim or even wade in either area.

Ventura Pier was originally built in 1872. The wooden pier is about 2000 feet long. On the pier, the restaurant Eric Ericsson’s on the Pier has dog-friendly outdoor seating and there is also a snack bar where you can get a quick bite on the pier. Dogs on leash are allowed on the pier.

Sheltered by the jetties and a breakwater, this gentle beach is known as the safest in Ventura. The lapping waves and soft sand dunes are great for kids to play in, and sights out to the Channel Islands are often clear, making this a great spot for pictures.

The City of Ventura oversees two beach areas in Ventura: City Beach Area 1: stretch of beach from the Ventura Pier to Surfer’s Point (near the Ventura County Fairgrounds) City Beach Area 2: stretch of beach from Marina Park to Camden Lane.

The Ventura Promenade is a . 5 mile long biking and walking trail that runs from the Ventura Pier to Sufer’s Point, eventually connecting to the Ventura River & Ojai Bike Trail. It is also part of the the larger “Omer Rains Trail” which runs some 3.5 miles to the south through Buenaventura State Beach.

Ventura County has some excellent beaches, and they’re all close enough to Los Angeles to reach in an easy day trip. The county shoreline runs only about 50 miles from Point Mugu to Mussel Shoals but don’t let that fool you. It’s one of the best places to go to the beach in Southern California.

Due to the Thomas Fire and power outages, the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water, and Ventura Water are advising ALL City of Ventura residents to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution. DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.

Dogs are allowed in the common areas of the mall. For nice harbor views while you shop, take your dog to Ventura Harbor Village.

Marina Park in Ventura, CA has a large open grass area for playing Frisbee or just hanging out in the sun. The city has built a large safe play area for kids that brings families to this park.

The park is at the end of Reservation Road in Marina, 10 miles north of Monterey. Online reservations are not available for this park. No events scheduled at this moment. The beach area winds through the Marina Dunes Natural Preserves. The beach is known for hang-gliding.
