IQ tests are psychometric and person-centric tests that are statistically reliable and valid, but do not necessarily represent the same type of intelligence across cultures. IQ tests are often criticized for being biased, and for only measuring one aspect of intelligence.

IQ tests have been used for decades to assess intelligence but they are fundamentally flawed because they do not take into account the complex nature of the human intellect and its different components, the study found.

Predictive Validity of IQ. It is undoubtedly true that moderate correlations between IQ and those criteria have been reported. It is widely accepted that test scores predict school achievement moderately well, with correlations of around 0.5 (Mackintosh, 2011).

Some people in the US may have been wrongly executed because of inaccuracies in the IQ tests used to assess them. But the inaccuracies may also have seen some escape execution if they scored lower on the tests than their real IQ.

Anyone who’s scarfed down junk food when feeling overwhelmed (but not necessarily hungry) knows that stress doesn’t exactly cause humans to make the smartest decisions. But recent research shows that chronic financial stress doesn’t just cause you to make a few bad decisions – it can actually lower your IQ.

Because of this bias, having a low IQ score can determine what kind of job and income you’ll receive later in life. And it’s unfair because IQ tests and other measurements of intelligence are not totally accurate. In truth, the brain is much more complex than IQ tests would make you believe.

Dec. 20, 2012 — Single tests that measure intelligence quotient, or IQ, may become a thing of the past. A new study of more than 100,000 participants suggests that there may be at least three distinct components of intelligence. So you could not give a single, unified score for all of them.

The last legitimate, untimed, IQ test I’m aware of that was widely available was the Terman Concept Mastery Test. It was entirely verbal and similar to the Miller Analogies Test. Another untimed test battery that may still be available, but is entirely quantitative, is called the EPC-L and EPC-R.

In the study, all participants were invited to take a series of 12 online tests that measure memory, reasoning, attention, and planning as well as information on the test takers’ background and lifestyle. The entire test takes about 30 minutes to complete.
