You are welcome to choose a cup, but as mentioned above, their sugar cones and cake cones are made without any dairy. Just avoid the waffle cone upgrade – it isn’t dairy-free.

These cones are made with flour, salt, eggs, sugar, butter and milk. Little do ice cream consumers know that waffle cones contain more sugar than sugar cones. Whether you get hard ice cream or soft-serve ice cream, waffle or sugar cones, always remember that wafer cones are the worst.

Ice cream cones typically contain gluten unless labelled otherwise. Many toppings can also contain gluten, such as cookie crumbles.

None of our ice cream cones contain tree-nuts or peanuts. None of our ice cream cones contain ingredients that contain tree-nuts or peanuts. Since we only bake ice cream cones at our two bakeries, there is no chance of any cross-contamination with other products.

Cross-Contamination The first place we felt comfortable having our son try ice cream on-the-go was McDonalds soft serve. Any peanuts for their sundaes are kept in separate individual packages, as are any other nuts or toppings for salads and the like.

Use caution with ice cream from ice cream parlors as shared scoops may be a problem. Ask for peanut-free soft-serve ice cream dispensed directly from a soft- serve machine without a scoop. Studies have shown that most peanut-allergic children can safely eat refined peanut oil. Check with your child’s doctor first.

Candies made by small bakeries or manufacturers (or homemade candies) may contain nuts as a hidden ingredient. The safest plan is to eat only candies made by major manufacturers whose labels show they are safe. Ice cream. Unfortunately, cross-contamination is common in ice cream parlors because of shared scoops.

For kids with food allergies, however, ice cream is not always an option. Ice cream contains dairy and for those with any milk allergy, it is often not an option. While it is not a true allergy, those who are lactose intolerant, also often find they are unable to eat ice cream.

In the United States, there are no lines of ice cream that are dedicated to being nut-free. Even those that do not contain peanut ingredients are processed on lines that previously processed nuts. As a result, many parents do not allow their children with peanut allergies to eat store bought ice cream.

3. A La Mode. A La Mode is the nut-free darling of the New York City ice cream scene. Owned by a couple with a food allergic nephew, this ice cream and boutique party shop is committed to dishing out ice cream that is safe for people with peanut, tree nut, sesame and egg allergies.

I received an email from Blue Bell customer service (May, 2019) that assured me that “Our 3-ounce cups and snacks, as well as our sherbet products are each run on their own equipment (nut free) and do not share with any other products.” Their snack cup bags come in vanilla, dutch chocolate and vanilla, birthday cake.

Soft serve generally has less milk fat than ice cream and is served at a lower temperature. Soft serve can vary by region or restaurant preference — some mixes are more like frozen custard and contain egg yolks, while others are simply a fluffier version of ice cream.
