Cape May is a great destination if you like to vacation with your dog, but we want to caution you that Cape May City’s beaches are not dog-friendly in season, and the Lower Township beaches along the Delaware Bay are the only beaches which are dog-friendly all year.

Paw prints can be found in the sand from leashed dogs at Sunset Beach from mid-September through mid-April. If you get hungry, The Grille has several dog friendly outdoor tables. Sunset Beach is also famous for the concrete ship of SS Atlantus which has been “grounded” at Cape May Point since 1926.

Pets must always be on a leash no longer than six feet in length and under the control of the owner. Please clean up after your pets. No pets are permitted on the beach from April 1st to September 15th. There are no pets are allowed on our trails.

Cape May Point State Park Pets are also not permitted on the trails year-round. During the summer months, pets are only permitted in the grassy areas located in front of the lighthouse and in front of the museum and office. Fido must be on a leash under six feet and all mess should be cleaned up after them.

Except for dogs – NJ beaches are not particularly dog-friendly. Most communities allow dogs on the beach during the off season only, and even then they have to be leashed. The luckiest dogs live close to Longport Dog Beach in Somers Point, where they are allowed to roam free year round.
