Arm has announced its new flagship Immortalis GPU for mobile, which offers hardware-based ray tracing on smartphones. This is a first for Arm. New second generation Armv9 processors have also been introduced. All of these make up Arm's Total Compute Solutions (TCS22). Here are all the details to know.

Ray Tracing on mobile is here thanks to the Immortalis-G715 GPU

The Arm Immortalis-G715 GPU is supposed to provide an "ultimate gaming experience" with support for AAA games. It offers features like hardware ray tracing, which offers a realistic gaming experience with real lighting and shadows. However, this can take a toll on the SoC. Immortalis-G715 used only 4% of shader core area and can deliver 300% improved performance through hardware acceleration.

There is also support for Variable Rate Shading and a new execution engine. The Execution Engine can deliver two times improvement in FMA (e fused multiply-add) with only 27% area increase.

It supports 10 cores and up and is said to offer a 15% improved performance over the previous Mali GPUs. It is also expected to deliver the "highest energy efficiency ever." In addition, the GPU will provide twice the architectural ML improvements.
