As the reviews for the game started coming in one by one, Astro Bot debuted with a score of 93 and increased by one more to sit at the top with a score of 94 on Metacritic. In addition, the game also scored 95 points on OpenCritic, making it the highest rated standalone game this year.
In comparison, Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Rebirth previously held the record with a score of 92 on Metacritic and 93 on OpenCritic, respectively. Also, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree still has the highest score of 95 on Metacritic, but it technically counts as a DLC.
