The dispute with AimJunkies has been going on for years

The jury trial between Destiny 2 developer Bungie and cheating software creator and distributor AimJunkies began on May 20, nearly three years after the lawsuit was filed by Bungie's lead attorney Jacob Dini in a Seattle court. It's been a long, complicated journey so far: AimJunkies, owned by Phoenix Digital Group, sued Bungie in 2022, claiming the Sony-owned company illegally accessed James May's computer and gained access to his copyrighted material. Then, in 2023, parts of the lawsuit — anti-circumvention and human trafficking violations — were settled in arbitration, with Bungie winning $4.3 million. Months later, AimJunkies filed to appeal the decision, claiming that the arbitrator "clearly ignored certain rules in reaching his decision." That appeal is ongoing.

Last week, Bungie and AimJunkies were in court to settle claims that AimJunkies infringed Bungie's copyright.

At the end of the week, Bungie won: A jury unanimously found that Phoenix Digital and its four defendants had infringed Bungie's Destiny 2 copyright in the creation and distribution of cheat software. The jury awarded Bungie a total of $63,210 — $20,000 from Phoenix Digital and $10,802.50 each from the defendants. The aforementioned counterclaim is also contested.
