No pendulum can swing forever because the system loses energy on account of friction. That’s why a grandfather clock has to be rewound every few days, to inject a little energy back into the system.

What effect do you think the difference in gravitational forces would have on the pendulum? (The force of gravity is less on the moon than on the Earth. Since the force of gravity is less on the Moon, the pendulum would swing slower at the same length and angle and its frequency would be less.)

2 Answers. If you go the the International Space Station (ISS) with a pendulum and set it up, it will NOT oscillate. The ISS and everything in it including your pendulum, is in low orbit around the earth. Its acceleration towards the earth is close to 9.8m/s2 which is the value on the earth’s surface.

A pendulum is an object hung from a fixed point that swings back and forth under the action of gravity. The swing continues moving back and forth without any extra outside help until friction (between the air and the swing and between the chains and the attachment points) slows it down and eventually stops it.

In that case, according to the Perfect Rulebook: “A face-up Xyz/Pendulum Monster in the Extra Deck cannot be Xyz Summoned. If the Level written in the card can be Pendulum Summoned, it can be Pendulum Summoned from the Extra Deck.”

I think it’s finally time to put the ‘Pendulums are dead’ narrative to rest. Extra Deck Pendulum Summons are now restricted to the Extra Monster Zone or a Main Monster Zone pointed to by a Link Arrow. However, Pendulum Summons from the hand are unaffected.

You can declare a Pendulum Summon once per turn during one of your Main Phases, much like how you can Normal Summon or Set a monster once per turn during one of your Main Phases. This is not an effect and does not start a Chain.

Whenever one of your Pendulum Monster Cards on the field (regardless of which Zone it is in, or even if it is a monster or not) would be sent to the Graveyard, place it face-up on your Extra Deck instead. You can Pendulum Summon it back to the field later!

Question: Can you pendulum summon in defense position? Answer: Yes (it’ll be face-up defense position). Question: Can you pendulum summon monsters from your deck, and not just from the hand or extra deck?

Pendulum Monsters that would be sent to the Graveyard from any other location are sent to the Graveyard as normal, including Pendulum Monsters detached as Xyz Materials and Pendulum Monsters whose activation as a Spell Card or Summon is negated.

Konami banned both of these monsters in February of 2018. Astrograph Sorcerer is a level 7 Pendulum Monster with 2500 ATK/2000 DEF. Similar to Chronograph Sorcerer, its Pendulum effect allows it to destroy itself and either Special Summon or place a Stargazer Magician in the Pendulum Zone from the hand or deck.

Monsters that do not have Levels (such as Xyz Monsters and Link Monsters) cannot be used as Xyz Materials unless specifically permitted (such as by “Number S0: Utopic ZEXAL”). While the majority of the Xyz Monsters require 2 Xyz Materials, many Xyz Monsters require more or can use a variable number of Materials.
