Dogs are not allowed at Drakes Beach. Drinking water and restroom facilities are available at the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center.

Point Reyes National Seashore Pets All pets must be restrained at all times while in the Seashore on a leash no longer than six feet. Pets may not be tied to an object and left unattended, or be allowed to make unreasonable noise.

Dogs: Dogs are not allowed on any of the beaches or trails at Tomales Bay State Park. Dogs are allowed only at the Vista Point picnic area and must be on leash at all times.

Dogs are permitted on just three beaches—Kehoe, Limantour and Great Beach—and just one trail, and are required to be leashed. Point Reyes is well worth visiting even with those restrictions. There’s a lot to see from the car, too.

Dillon Beach. This private beach in the northern part of Marin is very well maintained and allows dogs – assumed they are under voice control – to be off-leash between the tide line and the water. From the parking lot to the high tide line the leash is required. There is a $5 fee per vehicle.

Pets are not permitted in Muir Woods. The park is very small and can get very crowded. To protect the wildlife, other visitors, and your pet, we suggest that you visit nearby areas such as the Coastal Trail at Muir Beach, and some trails in the Marin Headlands where they are permitted.

Some beaches only allow dogs at specific times of the year or in certain areas. This can be a bit annoying for dog owners who want to enjoy the beach but remember that it’s so everyone can enjoy the seaside safely. Always clean up after your dog when you visit the beach together, just like on any other dog walk.

Dogs are permitted throughout the forest provided they remain on leash. While dogs are allowed on leash or under voice control in some areas of the Marin Headlands, it is important to note they are prohibited in other areas.

If your pooch is full of energy, run off-leash at Bolinas Beach. From historical preserves to fire roads, here are two of Marin’s best hikes for dogs. Marin boasts year-round pleasant weather, but for those select hot days, opt for the Indian Tree Open Space Preserve in Novato. As it’s a preserve, leashes are required.

China Camp State Park is open seven days a week, from 8 am to sunset. Back Ranch Meadows Campground is open from 8 am until the gate closes at 9 pm.

This beautiful collection of mountains located one hour outside of San Francisco is an expanse of green rolling hills in the spring and yellow in the fall. The cost to enter this park is $10, and it is well worth it (as of 2016, when I wrote this post). …

You can, in fact, drive your car to the top of Mount Diablo. You will have to pay a vehicle access fee of $10 at the South or North Gate entry point to the park. Once you’re in, you can drive your car all the way to the mountaintop to take in the magnificent view.
