Fog lights must be used like your high-beams: turned off when within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle and within 350 feet when following another vehicle. Fog lights must have a separate switch from regular headlights. Fog lights may not be used instead of headlights.

Push the defogger button to turn it on and off. The indicator above the button comes on to show the defogger is on. If you do not turn it off, the defogger will shut itself off after about 15 minutes.

To turn the system on: Pull and hold the headlight lever toward you for about 30 seconds, until the indicator flashes once. To turn the system off: Pull and hold the headlight lever toward you for about 40 seconds, until the indicator flashes twice.

Some automakers, though, are removing the lights, because they’re no longer deemed necessary as headlight technology improves. Other automakers aren’t likely to be far behind. Car manufacturers say that headlight technology is so good, extra fog lights are simply not needed anymore.

Are fog lights the same as low beams? No. Fog lights are a separate beam, only come on certain cars and are not required by law. Fog lights are typically found in the front bumper of a car or truck in their own separate assembly.
