An electromagnetic wave is a wave that is capable of transmitting its energy through a vacuum (i.e., empty space). Electromagnetic waves are produced by the vibration of charged particles. Electromagnetic waves that are produced on the sun subsequently travel to Earth through the vacuum of outer space.

Sound waves are travelling vibrations of particles in media such as air, water or metal. So it stands to reason that they cannot travel through empty space, where there are no atoms or molecules to vibrate.

Sound travels as waves of energy, but, unlike light, the waves transmit energy by changing the motion of particles. It’s also important to remember that the particles are moving in the same direction as the wave is moving.

Electromagnetic waves

Light is made up of particles called photons that travel like waves. Unlike some types of particles, they do not decay, meaning that they do not spontaneously turn into other types of particles. With nothing to stop them and no chance of decaying, the will keep going forever.

No, photons do not die. They are absorbed by the particles like an electron.

Light does have a maximum range, which can be defined from its point of origin, until the end of the universe. Provided it doesn’t hit anything along the way. A: We don’t think there’s any “end” in the sense of some spatial boundary.

Darkness doesn’t exist, and therefore cannot spread or move, but light (which obviously does exist) can. And in doing so it can also leave an absence of light, and this absence will grow or shrink at the speed of light.

Shadows are created by light, and only exist in the presence of light. Refusing to acknowledge our shadow leads us to deny the presence of light in us.”

Darkness does not exist, there is only an absence of Light. Though these two facts may be true, our perception of the cold and darkness can be debilitating. But, we humans can withstand extreme cold with proper clothing and the belief of never ending darkness if we have hope that the sun will rise.

Referring to a time of day, complete darkness occurs when the Sun is more than 18° below the horizon, without the effects of twilight on the night sky.
