A duplicate call number occurs when two or more different items have the same call number in the same location. Identical call numbers in different locations (regardless of whether the titles are identical or not).

Fiction is shelved alphabetically by the author’s full last name. If there are multiple books by the same last name, then the books should be shelved then in alphabetical order of the author’s first name.

Fiction books are classified by a call number according to its subject. After the book is cataloged and processed, the call number is put on the spine of the book. Books are shelved from left to right by the call number on the spines.

Call numbers beginning with a single letter come before call numbers with a second letter, e.g.: P before PA, then PB, PC, and so on until PR. Once you are in the correct letter area (in this example, PR), the books are in number order, e.g.: PR 8923 comes after PR 90 and before PR 9000.

1. main entry, using the first letter and two to four numbers, when the topic of the book is implied by the class number, e.g., ML390 is for collected biography of composers.
2. subject, when the topic of the book is indicated by a cutter number added to the class number,

Book numbers come at the end, and arrange books about the same subject so that they can be given useful order on the shelf and a unique location in the collection. The class number of a book tells what it is about, but many books can be about the same thing and share the same class number.

In theory, yes. There are no requirements that an author needs to have an academic title or education. Neither does one have to be affiliated to a university or other form or research institute.

You can upload the author version. You should also check with the publisher if you are allowed to do so. Sometimes there is an embargo or vesting period and, after that period, you are allowed to publish or distribute the author version of your paper on your own. You can upload the preprint version.
