Helldivers 2 as a retro shoot 'em up is something fans never knew they needed.

After a rocky few months, Helldivers 2 has settled into a stable position, with a solid player base and a lack of bad changes on Arrowhead's part. It's a well-deserved rest, given how troubling the game's continued decline was.
Despite all of this, there's no denying that the game is still one of the biggest releases of 2024. Perhaps to celebrate its success, a well-known team of retro animators have presented their own take on the war against the Terminids and Automatons, which has fans clamoring for a Helldivers 2 16-bit demake.
We're all well aware of how Helldivers 2's weapons, Stratagems and other mechanics can be, but imagine all that in a co-op, side-scrolling shoot 'em up with some old-school retro aesthetics thrown into the mix.
