Ohio retailers can no longer sell synthetic recreational drugs marketed as bath salts and K2 or spice, and use and possession of the substances is also banned beginning Monday. “They’ll get this enforced and it will go away for a while,” Dr. Edward Otten said.

In July of this year, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed House Bill 64, which made it a crime to sell or be in possession of bath salts and the new law recently took effect in October. Bath salts are considered a synthetic recreational drug.

It’s legal and readily available at local convenience stores, gas stations and head shops. Even kids can buy it, and it’s also virtually undetectable by the average employment drug-screen test.

It is illegal to payout Lottery winning prizes or Scratch Cards winning prizes to anyone under the age of 16. As a matter of company policy employees under the age of 16 must not sell any products referred to in this section to any customer regardless of their age.

There are no legal age restrictions for buying medicines.

It is illegal for staff to sell or supply alcohol to anyone under 18, and it is also an offence to knowingly allow someone else to sell alcohol to an underage person and to allow underage consumption on the premises.

Whether a particular article is a knife is a question of fact, but using a wider definition this legislation prohibits sales of, for example, sheath knives, kitchen knives, craft knives and carpet knives to persons under 18. The prohibition is not intended to apply to articles such as scissors or compasses.

If you sell age-restricted products to a person under the minimum legal age, you may commit an offence under the relevant law. The penalties can include a fine or even imprisonment.

It is illegal to sell knives and other similar products to anyone under 18. Sellers should always verify the age of the purchaser before a sale. Further restrictions are included in the Knives Act 1997, which specifically deals with knives advertised for use in ‘combat’.

A refusal log is important because it shows that you’re complying with the law for age-restricted products and acts as evidence should you need to prove that you’re actively ID-ing customers.

Age restricted products have a minimum age of purchase due to their potentially harmful nature and because they have the potential to cause one or more of the following: short term harm to the consumer/user (physical or emotional) long term harm to the consumer/user (physical or emotional) harm to others/wider society.

The prohibition does not apply to: folding pocket knives, where the cutting edge of the blade is less than three inches or 7.62 cm. replacement cartridges for safety razors, where less than 2 mm of the blade is exposed. domestic knives, where the purchaser is aged at least 16.

A test purchase can happen anytime that your premise is open. The police may carry out a spot check following a complaint or intel about your premises selling age restricted products to underage consumers. However, a randomised test purchase could also be simply a matter of routine.

Whilst the Challenge 25 policy is not in itself mandatory, for responsible licensees it can be a sensible way to meet this statutory “proof of age policy” condition. It can also prove to be an effective way of preventing, and even eradicating, underage sales.

If they fail to ask for age identification from somebody under-25, they run the risk of being disciplined for not following company policy.”

Someone who looks 18 could easily be 16, likewise, they could easily be 20 or 22. It’s less likely, however, that they’ll be 25. For this reason, we ask all colleagues to check the age of anyone buying restricted products who they believe to be under 25.

‘Proxy sales’ is a term used to describe the purchase of alcohol on behalf of children. A person commits an offence if they buy or attempt to buy alcohol on behalf someone under 18.

RESPONSE: Try, as far as possible, to monitor what is happening outside your store, especially young people hanging around. If you see what looks like an adult being asked to buy alcohol to buy a product by a person outside the store, refuse the sale to that person.

2. The store policy is clearly communicated to customers, usually through the use of visible in-store signage. It is illegal to sell alcohol, tobacco and nicotine inhaling products to a person who you know is going to supply it to a person under age.. This is commonly called a ‘proxy sale’.

It is illegal to knowingly sell alcohol, or attempt to sell alcohol, to a person who is drunk. It is also illegal to allow alcohol to be sold to someone who is drunk. Those who could face prosecution include: anyone who sells alcohol at the premises.
