Common human travel sickness tablets that can be used for dogs include: Dramamine or Gravol, active ingredient: dimenhydrinate. Dosing for dogs: 4 to 8 mg per kilogram of your dog’s weight, up to 3 times daily.

Do not take more than 400 mg in a 24-hour period. The dose of the long-acting form of dimenhydrinate tablets is 100 mg every 8 to 12 hours, with a maximum of 3 tablets in a 24-hour period. The usual adult dose of dimenhydrinate suppository is 50 mg to 100 mg every 6 to 8 hours as needed.

Veterinarians often use several prescription medications to help pets with nausea and/or vomiting. Some recommended choices include Metoclopramide, Cerenia (for dogs), and Famotidine or Pepcid. Cerenia has the added benefit of helping dogs with nausea and vomiting from motion sickness.

Dimenhydrinate (brand names: Dramamine®, Gravol®, Travtabs®, Driminate®, Triptone®) is an antihistamine used to prevent motion sickness and to treat nausea, especially in dogs with vestibular disease. Meclizine, also called Dramamine, can help dogs with motion sickness. However, if dogs are feeling ill due to anxiety, this drug won’t help. Dosage is important.
