It hasn't been a good week for Google's advertising business. After being served with a €2.1 billion lawsuit in Europe, Canadian regulators have widened an investigation into whether it abused its market position to disrupt rival platforms.

In a statement released Thursday, the Canadian Competition Bureau revealed that it had been granted a court order forcing Google to produce records related to its advertising operations.

The order marks the latest chapter in the now four-year investigation by Canadians into Google's advertising business. The regulator is expanding the scope of the investigation to determine the extent to which Google used its market position to disadvantage or harm competitors.

They also want to know whether the search giant may have engaged in undercutting – a practice where companies take advantage of their scale to lower prices to the point where it is no longer profitable for rivals to compete.
