A lively two-hour character generation episode kicks off a first look at the squad's new game

Critical roll creates characters in Daggerheart | Open Beta

The cast of Critical Role are celebrating nine years this week, and to celebrate they've launched the beta version of Daggerheart, a brand new RPG to be published by their Darrington Press publisher. It's a Dungeons & Dragons competitor that's been in development for a few years now, and the beta is huge, with just one manuscript at almost 380 pages. Thankfully, the cast of eight is here to make it a whole lot easier – and more fun – with a blast session of character generation.

Led by game master Matt Mercer, all seven core members of Critical Role showed up last night for a Daggerheart session zero – that is, the character generation and table setting that continues the opening round of play. It gave them the opportunity to showcase some of the things in this new game that make it so unique. They even mixed things up a bit by taking on classes and ancestries that go against their normal type.
