He then instated the 1940 Constitution of Cuba and served until 1944. After finishing his term, Batista moved to Florida, returning to Cuba to run for president in 1952….

The Cuban Revolution (Spanish: Revolución cubana) was an armed revolt conducted by Fidel Castro’s revolutionary 26th of July Movement and its allies against the military dictatorship of Cuban President Fulgencio Batista.

The Cuban Revolution was the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista’s regime by the 26th of July Movement and the establishment of a new Cuban government led by Fidel Castro in 1959. Interventions by the United States, Russia, and other foreign powers are largely attributed to the state of Cuba today.

The Cuban Revolution was an armed revolt in the mid 20th century. It was led by Fidel Castro against the government of Fulgencio Batista. He was replaced by a revolutionary government led by Castro. This government changed along communist lines, and became the Communist Party of Cuba in October 1965.

Prior to the assault, an air strike by B-26 bombers on Cuba’s main airfields on 15 April failed to destroy all of Castro’s air force. Then, when the Cuban exile fleet approached Cuba, coral reefs damaged the boats. On 19 April the CIA-backed Cuban exile force started to surrender. The Bay of Pigs invasion had failed.

Cuba has had a socialist political system since 1959 based on the “one state – one party” principle. Cuba is constitutionally defined as a Marxist–Leninist socialist state guided in part by the political ideas of Karl Marx, one of the fathers of historical materialism, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Lenin.

As of January 14, 2013, all Cuban government-imposed travel restrictions and controls have been abolished. Since that date, any Cuban citizen, with a valid passport, can leave the country at will, without let or hindrance from the Cuban authorities.

Republic

Since 1965, the state has been governed by the Communist Party of Cuba. Cuba is one of a few extant Marxist–Leninist socialist states, where the role of the vanguard Communist Party is enshrined in the Constitution.

Republic of Cuba (1902–1959)

Following the defeat of Spain in 1898, the United States remained in Cuba as an occupying power until the Republic of Cuba was formally installed on May 19, 1902. On May 20, 1902, the United States relinquished its occupation authority over Cuba, but claimed a continuing right to intervene in Cuba.

Following the Cuban Revolution in January 1959, Havana’s casinos were briefly shut down, but were quickly reopened after protests by casino workers left out of work. Fidel Castro nationalized the hotel on March 20, 1960 and finally closed the casino in October 1960, almost two years after his overthrow of Batista.

Fidel Castro was the party’s First Secretary (or leader) since its inception while Raúl Castro was the Second Secretary.

The economy of Cuba is a planned economy dominated by state-run enterprises. In 2019, Cuba ranked 70th out of 189 countries, with a Human Development Index of 0.783, placed in the high human development category.

Cuba is a single-party state. The Communist Party of Cuba (Spanish: Partido Comunista de Cuba, PCC) is the only party legally allowed to exist and hold effective power.

The National Assembly of People’s Power (Spanish: Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular) is the legislative parliament of the Republic of Cuba and the supreme body of State power. Its members (currently numbering 605) are elected from multi-member electoral districts for a term of five years.

After Batista’s overthrow in 1959, Castro assumed military and political power as Cuba’s Prime Minister. The United States came to oppose Castro’s government and unsuccessfully attempted to remove him by assassination, economic blockade, and counter-revolution, including the Bay of Pigs Invasion of 1961.

Guevarism is a theory of communist revolution and a military strategy of guerrilla warfare associated with communist revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara, a leading figure of the Cuban Revolution who believed in the idea of Marxism–Leninism and embraced its principles.

Che Guevara’s image is a popular design for clothing, so much so that Che’s likeness has been known as “the face that launched a thousand T-shirts”.
