In a bid to gain viewers, Disney+ Hotstar will telecast the upcoming cricket tournaments for free on its platform. This comes after Mukesh Ambani-led JioCinema followed the same strategy with IPL 2023. Given the questionable success of JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar is tempted to follow the same model as well. Hotstar revealed that all cricket fans in India will be able to enjoy the upcoming Asia Cup and ICC Men's World Cup completely free. This move removes the paywall completely and does not require you to have an active Disney+ Hotstar subscription.
However, this is not for everyone. This facility will be available to viewers on mobile only. That means if you're planning to sit back and enjoy this perk on your laptop, desktop or smart TV, unfortunately you won't be able to. In this case, you must have an active subscription. But if you own a tablet, this benefit is also open to you.
Commenting on the same, Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar said, "The proposal to lift the paywall for mobile-only viewers of the Asia Cup and ICC Men's Cricket World Cup aims to further democratize the game of cricket and make it accessible to as many mobile users in India as possible throughout the season.”
