Astro is a robot male with human emotions created by Umataro Tenma. Tenma created Astro in the image of his deceased son Tobio Tenma. Astro was forced into fighting other robots against his will in the robot circus, but was eventually rescued by Hiroshi Ochanomizu.

For couch potatoes of a certain age, exposure to world culture once consisted of the British puppet adventure “Thunderbirds,” the Japanese cartoon “Speed Racer” and most memorably “Tetsuwan Atomu” – “Astro Boy,” the syndicated program based on the 1951 manga (comic book) by Osamu Tezuka.

He has lasers in his fingertips, rockets in his limbs, blasters in his arms, a super-computer for a brain, “100,000 horsepower” strength, extremely sensitive hearing, spotlights in his eyes, and two 50 caliber machine guns in his buttocks. Astro Boy was invented by Dr.

Dr. Tenma created Astro to replace his son Tobio (‘Astor’ in the 1960s English dub; ‘Toby’ in the 1980s English dub and the 2009 film), who was killed in a self-driving traffic collision (first ran away, then was killed in the accident in the 2003 anime; vaporized by the Peacekeeper in the 2009 film).

The history of anime can be traced back to the start of the 20th century, with the earliest verifiable films dating from 1917. The first generation of animators in the late 1910s included Ōten Shimokawa, Jun’ichi Kōuchi and Seitaro Kitayama, commonly referred to as the “fathers” of anime.

The first full-length anime film was Momotaro: Umi no Shinpei (Momotaro, Sacred Sailors), released in 1945. A propaganda film commissioned by the Japanese navy featuring anthropomorphic animals, its underlying message of hope for peace would move a young manga artist named Osamu Tezuka to tears.

No the anime industry isn’t dying one bit. Despite how free subbed and dubbed anime online may seem to hurt the industry it isn’t actually affecting it in any way. More and more anime is being released each season and its going strong.

In 1960 Astro Boy was the first anime to be introduced to America by a man named Fred Ladd, who was just a producer at the time. Ladd, however, is the one to be credited for the introduction of anime to the states altogether, and not just for Astro Boy.

The sequel was cancelled. The first Astroboy film is standalone. New Line Cinema announced a live-action Astroboy film.

Uran is Astro’s younger sister and a major recurring protagonist in the Astro Boy franchise. She was created by Professor Ochanomizu, based off Astro’s own blueprints, and presented to Astro as a birthday gift, or New Year’s gift, depending on which series.

1960s series Uran (known as “Astro Girl” in the English dub) is presented as a birthday present to Astro, who rejoices and claims that he has always wanted a sister. She proves to be a handful though, teaching Astro what it actually means to be an older brother.

Pluto (Japanese: プルートウ, Hepburn: Purūtō) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. The series is based on Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy, specifically “The Greatest Robot on Earth” (地上最大のロボット, Chijō Saidai no Robotto) story arc, and named after the arc’s chief villain.

Astro’s First Love When he reaches his destination, Astro meets a beautiful, sweet, and clever robot girl named Niki.
