How to Chat Privately from the Attendees List

1. Click on the Attendees icon located in the Collaborate Panel.
2. Click on the Attendees Control panel and select Send a chat message.
3. Type your message in the Say something text box.
4. Click on the Chat icon to access your active chat streams.

On the main page, go to the Open Collaborate Panel button. The button is one Tab stop after the Open Session Menu button. Spacebar or select Open Collaborate Panel button to open the Collaborate panel.

Select the check box for Course/organization messages are read-only for students/participants. Students can only read the messages other roles send, such as instructors and teaching assistants. When you select this option, students also can’t forward messages.

Accessing the Collaborate Panel To chat with session participants, you would need to open the Collaborate Panel. To open the Collaborate Panel, click on the purple button in the bottom right corner, and then click on the Chat button (indicated by the chat bubble icon) to initiate a chat.

Tap the i icon in the top right-hand corner of the message thread, and on the next screen tap Secret Conversation. The screen will turn to a black theme again, and you’re good to go. To view an open secret conversation thread just choose it from the list of open message threads on the main screen of the app.

These encrypted chats rely on a device key that ensures only you and the recipient can see the message. You can verify the device key to confirm that the messages are end-to-end encrypted, set a timer to have secret messages disappear from the conversation and so forth.

It’s worth noting that if you send someone a message through Secret Conversations, they will know it’s a secret chat because the message bubble, which is usually blue, will be black. Next to their image it will read ‘Encrypted from one device to the other’ to let both parties know they’re engaged in a secret chat.

1. Launch TextPad and open the encrypted message in the program.
2. Select the entire text of the message by pressing the “Ctrl-A” keys.
3. Open the appropriate encryption software.
4. Enter the passphrase or password that was originally used to encrypt the message.
