Pooh is best known for his signature catchphrase, “Oh, bother,” usually spoken after getting himself into some sticky situations. From time to time, though, he and his friends also share unexpected words wisdom.

Winnie the Pooh saga turns 100 years old. One hundred years ago today a Canadian soldier adopted a black bear cub and named it after his adopted hometown of Winnipeg, launching the saga of Winnie the Pooh.

Pooh was purchased at Harrods department store in London and given by A.A. Milne to his son Christopher Robin on his first birthday, August 21, 1921. He was called Edward (proper form of Teddy) Bear at the time.

Winnie-the-Pooh is worth about $6 billion (the amount Disney makes from the Pooh bear franchise).

The Winnie the Pooh series ran for 7 years, ending in 1984 with issue #33. This issue, #22, is the rarest of all and is sought after by many Pooh collectors. Sales are few and far between for these but expect to pay over $100 for any highly graded copy.

Known to have a reputation of being the most intelligent character, Owl apparently experienced dyslexia of a certain degree. His frequent inability to spell out words coupled with misspelled words hints towards his dyslexic condition, according to CMA.

He is generally characterized as a pessimistic, gloomy, depressed, anhedonic, old grey stuffed donkey who is a friend of the title character, Winnie-the-Pooh.

Eeyore is clinically depressed. However, his parents were Scientologists and would not allow him any treatment, so he continues to be depressed to this day. Now that he’s a grownup, he’d be a prime candidate for a psychological intervention. Because he personifies depression.

Eeyore, who was named after the gloomy Winnie the Pooh character, outlived other donkeys whose lifespan is usually 25 to 30 years. He passed away at an animal sanctuary in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire.

The quiz was based on a study identifying the psychiatric diagnoses each Winnie the Pooh character embodied. Pooh was ADD, Tigger was ADHD, Rabbit was OCD, Roo was autism, Eeyore was depression and Christopher Robin was schizophrenia.

But Milne’s Pooh Bear character was a boy, as was Christopher Robin’s toy bear, so while the inspiration for Winnie The Pooh’s name may have come from a female bear, the fictional character that the world knows and loves is, indeed, a boy.
