You can use Google Voice to make calls or send text messages from Siri, the digital assistant, on your iPhone and iPad.

You can use Apple’s assistant to start calls or send messages through the service. You can enable Siri control by going to the Google Voice options and marking a default account for calls outside the app. Then, you’ll have to activate the Use with Siri option for the app in the iOS device settings.

You can make sure it’s enabled by going to Settings > Siri & Search. Also, you can say ‘Hey Siri’ followed by ‘Hey Google’ to do the same thing to run your new shortcut like this: Hey Siri, Hey Google. Or, you can just launch the Shortcuts app, tap on the newly created Hey Google shortcut and speak away your request.

The latest iOS update adds Google Voice to Siri’s list of recognized apps. iPhone and iPad users can now ask Apple’s voice assistant to call or send messages via the Google communication app.

Turn on voice search

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google app .
2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Settings. Voice and Assistant.
3. From here, you can change settings like your language and whether you want to have a voice search start when you say, “Ok Google.”

How to set up Google Assistant with Siri Shortcuts

1. Open the Shortcuts app.
2. Click the Library tab.
3. Tap Create Shortcut.
4. In the search bar, type Google Assistant.
5. Click Hey Google.
6. Tap the toggle button under Done in the top right corner.
7. Select Add to Siri.
8. Tap the red button and create your command.

Research by Loop Ventures, revealed that out of 800 questions they asked voice assistants, Google Assistant understood all of them and answered 92.9% correctly, while Alexa understood 99.9% and got 79.8% correct. Finally, Siri was able to understand 99.8% of the questions and managed to correctly answer 83.1%.

It’s great being able to compose messages accurately with your voice too. However, Google Assistant is generally a little smarter than Siri. Baked into more third-party devices and able to understand the whole family a bit clearer, it works better as a smart home voice assistant than Siri.

But as you can see from the graph, this category is the only time Google Assistant didn’t absolutely crush the competition. In fact, not only is Google better than Siri, Cortana, and Alexa in nearly every function, but Assistant is improving at an incredibly fast rate, as compared to Loup Ventures’ previous results from April 2017.

Google Voice is reliable for businesses and websites who need a quick number to establish their credibility further without being locked down to an expensive contract. The biggest advantages of Google Voice is that it is both cheap, and easy to use whilst being extremely flexible.

With its simple yet effective features, Siri is still the most popular virtual assistant in the market today, although Google Now is close on its heels. While Google now seems to have gotten the better of Siri in most fronts, you might want to keep in mind that the latter is still in the Beta stage of its development.

You can use Voice Control or Siri. Voice Control can be activated by pressing and holding the Home button, only if Siri is turned off. This means that if you are using Siri, you cannot use Voice Control.
