The general rule is to use the semicolons as you would use commas with ordinary list items: I arrange [X], co-ordinate [Y], and write [Z]. I arrange interviews through phone and film; co-ordinate the editorial team’s travel; and write blog posts, articles, and reviews of local London events.

Bullet points, often called dot points, are more commonly used than numbers in lists, but numbers are useful if the order matters or if you want to refer to specific points within the list. Most lists are introduced with a colon ( : ), not a semicolon (a common mistake).

If the items in the list are phrases or clauses with punctuation in them, put a semicolon at the end of each item. Put “and” (or, if logic dictates, “or”) after the next-to-last item in the list and a period after the last item. The items are not capitalized (except for proper nouns).

Negative numbers mean that you count from the right instead of the left. So, list[-1] refers to the last element, list[-2] is the second-last, and so on. List indexes of -x mean the xth item from the end of the list, so n[-1] means the last item in the list n . Any good Python tutorial should have told you this.

That means a good daily to-do list for an average productive person has between 6-12 tasks on it. Again, to-do lists are a highly individual thing. Many swear by having only 3 tasks on their list every day (obviously larger tasks) and others do best by having very long and detailed lists.

Adhere to the following guidelines when creating lists of any kind: Include between 2-8 items in a list. You must have at least two items in a list (or it’s not a list; it’s just an item). Avoid having more than 8 items in a list, as too many items can have the reverse effect.
