Exclusively Google says that EU antitrust authorities have asked whether Microsoft is unfairly tying authentication to Azure, in another sign that officials are considering several aspects of Redmond's policy.

Specifically, the EU team investigating the complaints against Microsoft is trying to understand whether customers must use Entra ID — a cloud-based identity and access management solution formerly branded Azure AD — to access Microsoft's services or whether they can also use rivals' technology.
The specific question from the EU has ended up on Google's desk, says Amit Zavery, vice president of the cloud platform, to The Register. He said Microsoft has built complexity and "layers" into its licensing.
"It's an art and science that they've been creating for many years because it requires a lot of resolution," he said.
