Smartphone shipments in the first quarter of this year were ten percent higher than in the first quarter of last year, according to Counterpoint Research, ending a streak of back-to-back year-over-year declines since the third quarter of 2021.

"The European market is showing signs of recovery and consumer confidence is improving, aided by some interesting innovations around on-device AI," said Deputy Director Jan Stryjak at Counterpoint Research.

"But we're not out of the woods yet," he warned. "While we expect the market to grow in the low single digits for the remainder of 2024, this is still after an extremely poor 2023, and we do not expect to return to pre-pandemic levels anytime soon."
