TikTok has earned a second investigation under the EU's Digital Services Act – and the suspension of its rewards program – after failing to comply with the law in two key respects.

TikTok Lite ends rewards program in EU to comply with regulations

As The Register reported last week, TikTok recently launched an app in Europe – TikTok Lite – that offers rewards for spending time on the platform and completing certain tasks. The app and rewards system had been around in Asia for a few years.

EU Commissioner Thierry Breton likened the reward system to smoking, and the commission quickly called on TikTok to produce the risk assessment report that designated very large online platforms must carry out before launching the services, as well as a document outlining measures it had taken to "mitigate potential systemic risks" to the features of TikTok Lite's reward system.

On Tuesday, the commission revealed that TikTok had not delivered any of the documents by the overnight deadline it imposed.
