Avast has released its quarterly Android App Performance & Trend Report for the third quarter of 2017, which highlights the apps that put a particular strain on a smartphone's system resources as well as users' pockets through heavy data consumption. The list has been divided into two categories, i.e. apps that automatically run in the background when a device is turned on, and those that need to be opened manually.

Here's a quick summary of Avast's Android App Performance & Trend Report:

The list of apps that have the biggest impact on performance is made up entirely of apps from Samsung and Google, and they take the maximum combined amount of mobile data, storage and battery life. Samsung AllShare was ranked as the most performance-degrading app, followed by Samsung's ChatOn Voice & Video Chat and Google Play Music in second and third place respectively.

When it comes to user-driven apps that take the biggest toll on a smartphone's overall performance, Samsung's WatchON emerged as the most damaging, followed by Google Docs and Beaming Service by Samsung rounding out the top three.
