The US Federal Communications Commission has named its first robocall gang, calling the crew "Royal Tiger", and detailed its operations in a bid to encourage international action against the fraudsters.

FCC Proposes First AI-Generated Robocal & Robotex rules

Royal Tiger uses AI voice cloning to impersonate staff at government agencies, banks and utilities. These robocalls purport to offer reductions in credit card interest rates or fake purchase authorization orders. The gang also uses spoofing techniques to obtain consumers' financial and other sensitive data, which then allows them to target individuals.

Because they did not obtain consumer consent, these calls violate the US Telephone Consumer Protection Act and/or the Commission's rules on robocalls to wireless telephone numbers, the FCC ruled.

The crew, which consists of individuals and voice service providers operating from India, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, is led by a person named Prince Jashvantlal Anand and his associate Kaushal Bhavsar [PDF].
