Exclusively, Fujitsu is effectively winding down business operations in Ireland and beginning consultations with employee representatives before the majority of the workforce is made redundant.

Fujitsu Ireland about their operations in Ireland

The devastating blow to the employees comes in the wake of the mega-scandal in which local branch managers working for the post office were blamed for failures in the Horizon system installed by ICL, which Fujitsu later bought. The system miscalculated daily earnings. The Post Office suspected foul play and demanded that the local branch managers personally make up the shortfall.

Hundreds of these Post Office employees were wrongly convicted of fraud, some attempted suicide, with sadly four cases resulting in death, and 33 have since died unable to see justice served. Fujitsu has said it will compensate the victims.

Adam Trill, Fujitsu's head of Ireland, told staff at the Dublin-based head office last night that the Irish business was winding down.
