The Pixel 9 series is now official, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has to be its biggest showstopper. The foldable has all the latest bells and whistles found in other 9-series devices. But given that this is Google's second attempt at a foldable, it begs the question. How much of an improvement is the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold over last year's model? Let's find out in this Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Pixel Fold comparison.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold vs Pixel Fold: All the differences explained

The biggest change we see between the two devices has to be design-wise. The original Pixel Fold went for a wider passport style. But this time Google has gone with a taller aspect ratio that gives the device a more typical smartphone-like presence in the hand. Additionally, it matches the design language of the other 9-series devices from the front. The rest of the look remains the same, with a metal body and frame covering the phone.

As they unfold, the generation gap between them is quite obvious. I'll reserve the conversation about the screen for the next episode. But you can see that the newer model has narrower bezels and the selfie camera has also moved to the display instead of the bezel. This makes the inner screen look exactly like the OnePlus Open.

9 Pro Fold also has a new hinge. It helps the phone go completely flat, which the older Fold couldn't do, plus the crease is also less visible. As you go through the rest of the device, you'll notice the power and volume controls on the right. The power button also functions as a fingerprint sensor. On the underside are the USB-C 3.2 port, the speaker grill and the SIM card slot. While the top houses the microphone and the second speaker.
