Safe Web Search is a free-to-use Google API for non-commercial purposes that allows client applications to look up websites in a database to see if they pose a known risk. It comes in two flavors, Standard and Enhanced.
Until now, the default version worked from a locally stored list of suspicious websites, limiting the data scope to when the list was last updated.
The improved version has offered more comprehensive protection using real-time URL lookups and machine learning, although it does send information to Google – which the tech titan claims is "only used for security purposes."
