Before going to the laboratory where you will find the materials to upgrade your weapons, you must defeat the Assistant Manager, a mini-boss located in the Black Anthill Lab. Its defeat will give you the Assistant Manager Key, which you'll use to enter a lab outpost you'll find under the oak tree. Specifically in the Koi pond.
