Yellowstone, despite its fascinating story, fails to present an original vision when it comes to character building.

Yellowstone: Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser React to Season 4 Finale SHOCKER (Exclusive)

While Yellowstone has carved a niche for itself and harbors a clan of loyal followers to embrace its rugged flashy cowboy lifestyle, Taylor Sheridan's series also poses its own risks and dangers. And that danger cuts much deeper than the superficial power struggles and political intrigues that can tear a family apart.

What Sheridan presents in his opulent vision in the heart of Montana's charming wilderness is an idealized image of a modern Game of Thrones. While the plot sells like hotcakes, what it leaves behind is a sour taste in its execution that feels more like Season 8 of the Westerosi series, despite aiming for the greatness of Season 6.

Kelly Reilly's character as Beth Dutton is a leading contributor to the most fundamental problem with Yellowstone. Seen as a symbol of empowerment, there are layers of mental, emotional and generational trauma underlying the character of Beth Dutton. This was done to elevate her as a symbol of resistance and power only enables the continued cycle of abuse and destruction.
