The parade of Meley's severed head is similar to the desecration of Robb Stark's body in Game of Thrones.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Season 2 Episode 5 Breakdown & The ending is explained | Review, Easter Eggs & Theories

The remnants of the previous episode, The Red Dragon and the Gold, are still felt in the latest part of the House of the Dragon. Season 2 Episode 5 saw the aftermath of the battle between the Targaryen relatives – Rhaenys, Aegon and Aemond – at Rook's Rest.

With Rhaenys and Meleys gone forever, Aegon wrestling with death on his bed as his dragon Sunfyre (who remains in the forest), and Aemond now the Prince Regent, the next sequences in the show will be much more nerve-wracking.

Episode 5 opens with the severed head of Meley paraded through the streets of King's Landing. The poor fly-ridden corpse of the dragon is exhibited for the curiosity of the little people. As a knight cries, "Behold! The treacherous dragon, Meleys!" the crowd gathers as they stare at the severed head of the once mighty dragon.
