Normal hygrometers are therefore set to achieve highest accuracy at a much lower humidity level of room humidity in a range from 30% to 60%. For the typical humidity levels for cigar storage of over 65%, the accuracy of these normal analog and digital hygrometers decreases significantly.

i have found the best place to put those are one near the top and one near the bottom. (you want different readings) also don’t leave the Fluker’s Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer in the tank permanently. they tend to burn out.

First, digital hygrometers use modern technology. Analog sensors are used to measure the humidity in the air and this is then read out on a digital gauge. This makes them very easy to read, as well as being very accurate. These are electronic devices and they are usually not as elegant as their analog brethren are.

Analog hygrometers should always be calibrated upon installation as it is a mechanical device and can get out of whack during shipment. From time to time you may need to check the calibration of your hygrometer especially if you have problems maintaining the proper humidity in your humidor.

How long does it take for a hygrometer to get an accurate reading? Always give a hygrometer about two hours to stabilize before taking a reading, as changes in the relative humidity may take a while to register accurately on a hygrometer.

Dampen a towel (not dripping wet, but good and damp), then wrap the hygrometer in the towel for 30 to 45 minutes. Then unwrap it and read the humidity (quickly). If your hygrometer is perfectly calibrated (few are) it will be reading exactly 100% humidity. Most likely, it will be reading somewhere between 80 and 90%.

Cheap mechanical hygrometers and cheap electronic hygrometers are supposed be accurate within +/-7%.
