Set up FaceTime on iPhone

Well, after you tap the app’s icon from the Home screen, you’re required to sign in to FaceTime using your Apple ID, which can be your iTunes Store account, iCloud ID, MobileMe account, or another Apple account. If you don’t have an account, tap Create New Account to set one up within FaceTime.

To activate it, tap on the app or say “Hey Siri.” As soon as it’s activated, say “FaceTime (name of contact)” to start video chatting with that person.

1. Go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on FaceTime.
2. If you want to be able to take Live Photos during FaceTime calls, turn on FaceTime Live Photos.
3. Enter your phone number, Apple ID, or email address to use with FaceTime.

Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that FaceTime is on. If you see “Waiting for Activation,” turn FaceTime off and then on again. If you don’t see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren’t off in Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.

FaceTime might run into issues if you aren’t running the latest software on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Update your device to the latest OS release to fix this issue. Also, make sure the person you’re trying to FaceTime updates their device as well. On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

The first thing to check when you receive a message telling you that FaceTime isn’t available is whether you have an adequate cellular or Internet connection. If your cellular connection is low, or you aren’t in range of a strong Wi-Fi connection, that’s likely the reason you aren’t able to make a FaceTime call.
